Pioneer Gold Coins · Coaching
A rare coin collector built his own dealer-tracking system in one afternoon
In a single coaching session, we built a dealer intelligence report and started a web app that watches for target coins and alerts him when one appears for sale.
The problem
A collector of pioneer and territorial US gold coins from the 1830s and 1840s needed two things: a way to find which dealers specialize in this narrow market, and a system to watch for coins he wanted to buy. The market is relationship-driven and scattered. Coins range from $10,000 to $2 million. Missing a listing can mean waiting years for another.
What we built
- A dealer intelligence report built live during the session. AI swept more than 10 specialty dealers, pulled key contacts, professional memberships, social handles, and recent inventory mentions. That kind of research used to take days or a hired researcher. We did it in an afternoon.
- A curated keyword list tuned to the exact subcategories he collects: Territorial, California gold, California fractional gold, Pioneer gold, Colorado gold, slug. AI validated each term against false positives so searches return real results.
- A web app scaffolded from scratch using Claude Code. The collector described what he wanted in plain English and watched it take shape. The session showed what AI-assisted building feels like as much as it shipped working code.
- Scraper agents that watch dealer sites for new inventory matching his keywords. When a target coin appears, he gets an alert before most other collectors see it.
