A CPA firm owner went from using AI to building it, then started teaching her industry
The first engagement gave her hours back. The second changed what she sells. Weekly coaching took a non-technical firm owner up the ladder from doing tasks in AI, to packaging them as reusable skills, to running her own agents, and her AI fluency is now a revenue line of its own.
The problem
A CPA and firm owner had already automated her admin with AI and gotten ten-plus hours a week back. The ceiling she hit next was different: every new workflow still needed outside help to build. She wanted to build her own, and she suspected the expertise she was accumulating was worth money to her industry. Both instincts were right.
What we built
- A learning ladder that actually sticks for a non-engineer: do the task manually in AI first, then turn the repeatable version into a saved skill, then promote the skill into an agent that runs it. Every workflow climbs the same three rungs.
- Firm workflows built on that ladder: month-end and quarter-end close checklists, bookkeeping cleanup, tax-planning starters, and client diagnostics connected to the firm's accounting data.
- A migration off a decaying automation platform onto tooling her firm controls, planned so nothing client-facing broke mid-move.
- Coaching through her first paid deliverable as a builder: an automation she priced at 1,500 dollars that saves her client roughly 13,000 dollars. Her own review of the pricing: she could have charged more.
- Her first AI webinar for accountants: fifteen attendees who stayed fifteen minutes past the end, and a response she described as "mind blowing." The firm owner is becoming the teacher.
